A representation of a Wing or Wings as a tattoo design, of course, symbolizes flight. But if we give wing to our imagination for a moment, if only as a romantic gesture, we can say that they signify the escape from the bonds of earthly existence to the limitless freedom of the spirit. Wings stand for peace, love, and the link between earth and sky — between the human and the divine — and as symbols of transcendence and liberation. Wings associated with creatures such as dragons, griffins, winged horses, and with the more delicate world of fairies, butterflies and bees have an element of the magical about them.
As tattoos, the wing design is often infused with inspirational or spiritual significance — the angel motif for instance, a symbol of guidance and protection. For those who dream of soaring the skies like a bird, the wing symbol takes on the feathery aspect of a bird. As a tattoo design it can reflect the power of the eagle or the lightness of the butterfly. It is also worn as a badge of accomplishment by those who have “earned their wings” through trials or training. Such stories form the basis of many myths around the world.

The tiger is one of the most powerful animals in existence. Known as the king of the wild, the tiger is a strong, dangerous creature that hunts animals five times the size of humans. Most people who get tiger tattoos appreciate the animal for its strength, courage, and power. Many cultures view the tiger as an animal that is on top of the world. Some view the tiger as a source of protection. In ancient China, pictures of tigers were posted on the walls of pregnant women’s rooms in an effort to protect the babies, and many would carry tiger charms to help keep evil away. Shamanism links tigers not only to power and strength, but also to passion and sensuality. They believe that if a tiger were to appear in your life or in your dreams, it may mean that new powers and passions are about to come to life before your eyes. TATTOO fan Deborah Addle has raised cash for a charity that helps wounded soldiers – by having cartoon servicemen inked on to her body.
The Airedale mum-of-four will boost the coffers of Help for Heroes – which collects money to support members of the armed forces who have been injured in service – after getting the colourful tattoo on her left shoulder.
Friends, family and colleagues at Airedale High School, where Deborah is a reprographics technician, collected £1,000 in sponsorship to see her have the tattoo at the Red Dragon tattoo shop in Castleford at the weekend.
Part of the cash raised will also go to a fund for a war memorial in Airedale that is being led by the family of fallen soldier Rifleman James Backhouse.
It’s not the first time daring Deborah has gone under the needle for charity – she has already had a Pudsey bear tattoo done to raise £300 for Children in Need.

First thing to remember about your new tattoo is that this is an investment for life! Do not rely on information from friends about the care of your new tattoo. The artist will provide you with the proper care for the tattoo. And if he dosen’t give you the necessary information on how to care the new tattoo, here are all the information you need to know.
Generally, if your tattoo has been bandaged, leave it on for approximately two hours. Then, wash it gently with luke-warm water using antibacterial soap. Pat it dry, do not rub. This washing should occur three to four times a day.

Do no apply another bandage to the tattoo. Allow it to be exposed to air. This will help the healing process. Also, try to avoid tightly fitted clothing. Clean, loose clothing will be the best.
After washing, apply very thing coasts of Bacitracin or A&D Ointment and work it into the skin. Do not over apply. Apply just enough so that the tattoo appears shiny. If you can see the ointment on your skin, you are using too much.
Do not soak the tattoo in water or let the shower directly spray hard onto it. Also, avoid swimming pools, the ocean, hot tubs or any other source of water, aside from the shower, until the tattoo is healed. Also avoid getting the new tattoo sunburned until it is healed. All of these can fade the tattoo and hinder the healing process.
When the tattoo begins the healing process, do not directly scratch the tattoo. Itching means healing and a little bit of alcohol will relieve the itch. Also, do not pick the scabs that may form. Let them fall off gradually. This will usually happen in one to three weeks.
If swelling or redness occurs, you can use ice packs to help the swelling go down. Most importantly, notify a doctor if you have even the slightest sign of infection. The healing process can be as little as one week or as long as six weeks or more depending on the size and complexity of your particular design.
Wesley Metcalfe, from Anston, is offering to tattoo an advert on his arm for whoever offers the highest bid in his internet auction on eBay.
Wesley, aged 31, said: “The winner of this auction will have their chosen advert, or anything they want for that matter – so long as it’s not offensive or political – permanently tattooed on the upper area of my right arm.

“I see it as an opportunity to purchase a unique advertising space that can be seen for a lifetime.
“As a keen swimmer, vest wearer and someone who drives with their right arm hanging out of the car window, I can guarantee the winner of this auction maximum exposure for their advert.
“Not only will the chosen design be tattooed on my body permanently but my arm will also have its own website allowing the advert or design to be viewed worldwide.” Wesley, who until recently ran a nightclub, says he came up with the idea to raise a few bob.
He added: “It’s due to the credit crunch and generally being skint.
“I hope my space goes to someone local – someone like Henderson’s Relish would be nice but I’ll consider all serious offers.”
Wesley says he hopes to raise several thousand pounds – but when he spoke to The Star, the highest bid stood at £22.
He said: “It would cost more for the tattoo than I’ve been bid so far but I’m hoping that once it’s been in The Star, things will really begin to take off.
“As I have no other tattoos, the person who buys it will get a totally unblemished arm which makes it that bit more special.”
Wesley says he thought long and hard before deciding to auction his arm off.
But his partner was much quicker at making her mind up.
He said: “She wants some stuff doing around the house so she’s happy enough with the prospect of getting some cash.”
